Just Because

Just because someone doesn’t love you the way you want them to
doesn’t mean they don’t love you with all they have.

Jim and Edna were patients in a mental hospital. One day while
they were walking past the hospital swimming pool, Jim
suddenly jumped into the deep end, sank to the bottom, and
stayed there.

Edna promptly jumped in, swam to the bottom, and pulled Jim
out.

When the hospital director learned of Edna’s heroic act, he
ordered her to be discharged from the hospital, as he now
considered her to be mentally stable.

When the director went to tell Edna, he said, “Edna, I have
good news and bad news. The good news is you’re being
discharged. Since you were able to rationally respond to a
crisis by jumping in and saving the life of another patient, I
have concluded that you are of sound mind. The bad news is
that Jim, the patient you saved, hung himself in the bathroom
with his bathrobe belt right after you saved him. I am so
sorry, but he’s dead.”

Edna replied, “He didn’t hang himself, I put him there to dry.
How soon can I go home?”

I wanted to send the above joke because of the introductory
line, which is how I received it. It really points out the
dangers of making assumptions on very little evidence.

Cherokee Legend

Do you know the legend of the Cherokee Indian youth’s rite of
passage?

His father takes him into the forest, blindfolds him and
leaves him alone.

He is required to sit on a stump the whole night and not
remove the blindfold until the rays of the morning sun shine
through it.

He cannot cry out for help to anyone. Once he survives the
night, he is a MAN.

He cannot tell the other boys of this experience because each
lad must come into manhood on his own.

The boy is naturally terrified. He can hear all kinds of
noises. Wild beasts must surely be all around him. Maybe even
some human might do him harm. The wind blew the grass and
earth and shook his stump, but he sat stoically, never
removing the blindfold. It would be the only way he could
become a man!

Finally, after a horrific night the sun appeared and he
removed his blindfold. It was then that he discovered his
father sitting on the stump next to him. He had been at watch
the entire night, protecting his son from harm.

We, too, are never alone. Even when we don’t know it, our
Heavenly Father is watching over us, sitting on the stump
beside us. When trouble comes, all we have to do is reach out
to Him.

Time to Laugh!!

On the Way to Heaven

One day a Jerry, Perry, and Cletus were on their way to heaven.

God told them the stairs to heaven were 1,000 steps and on every step he was going to tell them a joke. If they laughed they would not be able to get to heaven.

So Jerry made it to the 45th step and laughed.

Perry made it to the 200th step and laughed.

But Cletus made it to the 999th step and laughed even before god told his joke.

God asked, “Why did you laugh I haven’t even told the joke yet”

Cletus responded, “I know I just now got the first one!!!”

Bible Reflections from Kyregma

KEEPING HIS COMMANDMENTS

“If you love me, you will keep my commandments.” – John14:15
I found out that a close relative I trusted bad-mouthed me, stole from me and did the same to other members of our family. As my wife and I dug further, we discovered more bad stories about this person. Every time we talked about this, my blood would boil and my adrenalin would go up. But the Lord is reminding me today, “Love him if you love Me.”
A close friend uttered an insulting joke about me and my business. I wanted to squeeze the life out of this person. What a totally unfair statement! But today, the Lord reminds me, “Love her if you love Me.” After having spent two years of helping out and serving a friend, this person sends me an email outlining all my shortcomings and faults. The Lord reminds me, “Love! Do it for Me!”
I realized that Ken Blanchard, bestselling author of The One Minute Manager and Lead Like Jesus, was right when he said, “Demonstration (not words) is the next wave of evangelization.” The world is waiting for those who follow Jesus in acting and being like Him, who will love as He did. Ariel Driz

REFLECTION:
In what way can I demonstrate my love for the Lord?
Lord Jesus, nothing is impossible for You. Grant me the grace to love even when it hurts. Amen.

NOT ORPHANS

After Socrates drank the cup of lethal hemlock, his pupils mourned that “they would have to spend the rest of their lives as children who had lost their father,” said Plato. Such is the case in ancient days. When a learned teacher dies, his students, nourished by his fatherly wisdom, often speak of themselves as having been orphaned. This is the same between Jesus and the Twelve. Thus, Jesus tells His disciples today, “I will not leave you orphans.”
Jesus is indeed telling the truth when He assures His disciples that He will not leave them orphans. Here are three reasons:
First, Jesus never lies. If there is anything that Jesus cannot do, despite His being God Himself, it is to tell a lie. Jesus is not only truthful; He is the Truth. When He tells His disciples that He will not leave them orphans, believe it.
Second, Jesus will die the following day but He will rise again. Students of a learned rabbi are considered orphans at the death of their teacher. And the death of their teacher is permanent; thus, the students are orphans forever. But Jesus’ death is temporary; thus, the disciples are not orphans at all.
Third, Jesus is going away but He is not gone. He is not leaving the scene. He will still be very much present within the Church and in the world. Jesus’ ascension does not mean that He is gone forever. It only means that Jesus cannot be seen by
the naked eye anymore. It means that Jesus can only be recognized through the eyes of faith. It only means that He is present in a different way.
The Holy Spirit defends us against lies, helps us believe in the resurrection of Jesus, and makes us recognize Him still present in our midst but in a new and different way. Jesus gives us the Holy Spirit, our Advocate.
We are not orphans. We will never be. Jesus is not only with us. He is in us through His Spirit. Fr. Bobby Titco

Reflection Question:
Jesus is in us, not only with us.
Jesus living in me, help me live in You. Jesus living with me, help me live with You. Jesus, You gave me Your Spirit. Let me give my life to You. Amen.
St. Zita, virgin, pray for us.

The reception of the Holy Spirit is a key aspect of a person’s initiation into the life of Christ. We need to surrender to the Spirit’s power or we may be like a car without an engine to move it anywhere. Peter and John visited Samaria to pray specifically for the outpouring of the Holy Spirit after the initial work of evangelization done by Philip. Today, the Church continually needs Christians to be empowered by the Spirit for the building up of God’s Kingdom here on earth.
Acts 8: 5-8, 14-17
5 Philip went down to the city of Samaria and proclaimed the Messiah to them. 6 With one accord, the crowds paid attention to what was said by Philip when they heard it and saw the signs he was doing. 7 For unclean spirits, crying out in a loud voice, came out of many possessed people, and many paralyzed and crippled people were cured. 8 There was great joy in that city. 14 Now when the apostles in Jerusalem heard that Samaria had
accepted the word of God, they sent them Peter and John, 15 who went down and prayed for them, that they might receive the Holy Spirit, 16 for it had not yet fallen upon any of them; they had only been baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus. 17 Then they laid hands on them and they received the Holy Spirit.

P S A L M
Psalm 66: 1- 3, 4-5 , 6-7, 16 and 20
R: Let all the earth cry out to God with joy.
1 Shout joyfully to God, all you on earth, 2 sing praise to the glory of his name; proclaim his glorious praise. 3 Say to God, “How tremendous are your deeds! (R) 4 Let all on earth worship and sing praise to you, sing praise to your name!” 5 Come and see the works of God, his tremendous deeds among the children of Adam. (R) 6 He has changed the sea into dry land; through the river they passed on foot; therefore let us rejoice in him. 7 He rules by his might forever. (R) 16 Hear now, all you who fear God, while I declare what he has done for me. 20 Blessed be God who refused me not my prayer or his kindness! (R)
2nd READING
St. Peter exhorts us to be ready at all times with an explanation for the hope we have in our lives. Thus we need to understand the life of grace we live under the guidance and blessing of the Holy Spirit. When others ask us about it, our explanation should inspire them to surrender to God and accept His gift of salvation.

1Peter 3: -15-18 (or 1Peter 4: 13- 16)
15 Sanctify Christ as Lord in your hearts. Always be ready to give an explanation to anyone who asks you for a reason for your hope, 16 but do it with gentleness and reverence, keeping your conscience clear, so that, when you are maligned, those who defame your good conduct in Christ may themselves be put to shame. 17 For it is better to suffer for doing good, if that be the will of God, than for doing evil. 18 For Christ also suffered for sins once, the righteous for the sake of the unrighteous,
that he might lead you to God. Put to death in the flesh, he was brought to life in the spirit.
G O S P E L
Jesus promises His disciples that He will send the gift of the Holy Spirit upon them when He returns to His Father in heaven. The Spirit makes up for the loss of the physical presence of Jesus in the world. It also serves as the basis of our lives as disciples. Without the Holy Spirit, the world will easily lure us into its ways and beliefs. But with it, we can stand firm and know that we will never be defeated as long as we live by God’s grace.

John 14: 15-21 (or John1 7: 1-11 a)
15 “If you love me, you will keep my commandments. 16 And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Advocate to be with you always, 17 the Spirit of truth, which the world cannot accept, because it neither sees nor knows it. But you know it, because it remains with you, and will be in you. 18 I will not leave you orphans; I will come to you. 19 In a little while the world will no longer see me, but you will see me, because I live and you will live. 20 On that day you will realize that I am in my Father and you are in me and I in you. 21 Whoever has my commandments and observes them is the one who loves me. And whoever loves me will be loved by my Father, and I will love him and reveal myself to him.”

Bible Reflections from Kyregma

Feast of St. Mark, Evangelist
BECAUSE OF LOVE
And all of you, clothe yourselves with humility in your dealings with one another. – 1 Peter 5:5
“No, I can’t take it sitting down.”
“I have to fight and let him know he’s wrong.”
This is my reaction whenever I feel that something wrong was done or decided on by a higher authority, especially if it affects me or the people around me. Being an analytical person, I would scrutinize in my mind or with someone else the negative impact of a decision or action, and even the motivation for doing so. It would affect me so much that I would even dream about it, get migraine because of it, and a host of other “stressinduced” illnesses.
“The world is not perfect because of love,” the priest said during the recollection of Retreat in Daily Life participants. I felt convicted. I had become too critical, judgmental and too idealistic, unwilling to accept flaws of persons in authority,
especially those who are over me.
Nobody is perfect. The world is not perfect. I am not perfect. That’s why the Lord asked us to love one another. That’s why we have been given the power to love. And it is this love that has the power to transform the world, the people in it and most of all, myself. Tess Atienza
REFLECTION:
What you cannot accept in others is probably a projection of what you cannot accept in yourself.
Give me Your heart, O Lord, so that I may still love despite all the imperfections around me and within me.

LEAVING OUR MARK
Today is the feast of St. Mark, the Evangelist. We know very little about Mark. The little we know about him is from his work for the Lord.
The First Reading today (1 Peter 5:5-14) tells us that Mark was like a son to Peter. He was Peter’s loyal aide and Paul’s reconciled friend.
We also know that Mark wrote the shortest, oldest and bluntest of the Gospels. He wrote the Gospel for Christians who were restless over the delay of the Second Coming of the Lord and were frightened by the virulent persecution waged against them. If you cut the gospel written by Mark into equal halves, you will discover that its very center is the verse where Jesus says, “If a man wishes to come after me, he must deny his very self, take up his cross and follow me.” Discipleship and the Cross form the heart of Mark’s gospel. Discipleship is his response to the Lord. The Cross is his Good News to the world.
I wonder, hundreds of years from now, if someone accidentally comes across anything that will identify us, what will that be? How will we be known to generations we will never know? Will they also say, “We know very little about this person, but we know what he did for the Lord and what the Lord does for us now because of him.” This we now say about Mark. Can they say the same about us even long after we are gone?
It depends on what mark we leave behind. It will do us well to reflect on this today — Mark’s feast day. Fr. Bobby Titco
Reflection Question: It is by loving like Jesus that the world will know that we are His disciples.
Stamp Your image on us, O Jesus, so that wherever we go we may leave a mark of You on people we meet. May they know very little about us but very much about You. Amen.
St. Mark, evangelist, pray for us.

The call to leadership has to be discerned carefully as it involves great responsibility. A leader takes on more than simply the responsibility for his own life – he also takes a certain responsibility for the way in which he teaches and leads others. If he leads someone on the wrong path, then he is at least partially responsible for that person’s errors. If we are going to take on a leadership or teaching role in the Church community or indeed anywhere, we should remember this and act soberly at all times.
1 Peter 5: 5b-14
5 Clothe yourselves with humility in your dealings with one another, for: “God opposes the proud but bestows favor on the humble.” 6 So humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time. 7 Cast all your worries upon him because he cares for you. 8 Be sober and vigilant. Your opponent the devil is prowling around like a roaring lion looking for [someone] to devour. 9 Resist him, steadfast in faith, knowing that your fellow believers throughout the world undergo the same sufferings. 10 The God of all grace who called you to his eternal glory through Christ Jesus will himself restore, confirm, strengthen, and establish you after you have suffered a little. 11 To him be dominion forever. Amen. 12 I write you this briefly through Silvanus, whom I consider a faithful brother, exhorting you and testifying that this is the true grace of God. Remain firm in it. 13 The chosen one at Babylon sends you greeting, as does Mark, my son. 14 Greet one another with a loving kiss. Peace to all of you who are in Christ.

Psalm 89: 2-3, 6-7, 16-17
R: For ever I will sing the goodness of the Lord.
1 [2] The favors of the LORD I will sing forever; through all generations my mouth shall proclaim your faithfulness. 2 [3] For you have said, “My kindness is established forever”; in heaven you have confirmed your faithfulness. (R) 5 [6] The heavens proclaim your wonders, O LORD, and your faithfulness, in the assembly of the holy ones. 6 [7] For who in the skies can rank with the LORD? Who is like the LORD among the sons of God? (R) 15 [16] Blessed the people who know the joyful shout; in the light of your countenance, O LORD, they walk. 16 [17] At your name they rejoice all the day, and through your justice they are exalted. Each baptized Christian is given the authority and call to be a part of the mission of the Church. None of us can afford to sit back and leave all the work of evangelization to others. We all have a part to play in the mission of the Church. This is the least we can expect. The gift of salvation is such a wonderful gift that we should be eagerly looking for ways to contribute to the spread of the Gospel. Let us pray daily for enlightenment in this area of our lives.
Mark 16: 15-20
15 He said to them, “Go into the whole world and proclaim the gospel to every creature. 16 Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved; whoever does not believe will be condemned. 17 These signs will accompany those who believe: in my name they will drive out demons, they will speak new languages. 18 They will pick up serpents [with their hands], and if they drink any deadly thing, it will not harm them. They will lay hands on the sick, and they will recover.” 19 So then the Lord Jesus, after he spoke to them, was taken up into heaven and took his seat at the right hand of God. 20 But they went forth and preached everywhere, while the Lord worked with them and confirmed the word through accompanying signs.

Cheap Way To Lower Blood Pressure

Here’s an easy and cheap way to lower blood pressure:

One of the best ways to live a long and healthy life is to keep
your blood pressure within normal levels. It turns out that one
way to do that is to go to church every week, reports Reuters of
research from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and
Prevention
in Atlanta, Ga.

The study: In this large, multiethnic study of nearly 14,500
American men and women age 20 years and older who were part of
the Third National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey, the
participants’ blood pressure was taken at home and in mobile
examination centers.

They were also asked how frequently they attended church or
religious services.

The answers:
40% attended once a week or more.
28% worshiped less than once a week.
33% said they never participated in services.

The results: Lead researchers, Dr. R. Frank Gillum and Dr.
Deborah D. Ingram, found that those who attended religious
services at least once a week had lower blood pressure and a
lower prevalence of high blood pressure, compared with people
who never attended.

Specifically, the once-a-week churchgoers had systolic (the top
number) readings that were 1.46 mm Hg lower than those who never
attended, while those who attended more than once a week had
systolic levels 3.03 mm Hg lower than those who never attended,
reports Reuters.

The study findings were published in the journal Psychosomatic
Medicine, 2006.

Your Wish Will be Granted

…..a story for you!!! another forwarded email which I am also passing to all of you!!
I just want to share that two years ago, I went to see St. Therese’s remains when it was put on display in the Carmelite Church. I went there because I was curious what was this euphoria about the
world’s youngest saint whose job is to grant people’s wishes?

So I went with friend Lyn and I must admit the life of the little child, Therese, intrigued me. It turned out she was a child who wanted to serve her God more than anything else in the world. Thus, in every chore that she did: even watering the plants, she performed it like it was for her master.

Since all her siblings were Carmelite nuns, she became a nun herself, the youngest (12?) to be allowed inside the conven t. So we’re talking of a pure “uncorrupted soul”. And then she died.

But she left a journal (suggested reading!) which contained all her thoughts about God, love and life. Since then she became the saint who grants all wishes.

Believe it or not, my wish was granted! Not because I said a novena but knowing about her life and reading her works inspired me and made me more patient and persevering.

According to religious beliefs, St. Therese was known as: “The
Little Flower”. Whenever you ask for intercession to her for a miracle, she will send you a rose in one form or another when the miracle has been granted. You may smell roses, receive a rose by visual means, etc.
REMEMBER to make a wish before you read the poem. That’s all you have to do. There is nothing attached. This is a powerful novena. Do not break this, please. Prayer is one of the best free gifts we receive. There is no cost but a lot of reward. Let’s continue praying for one another.

Make a wish before you read this poem…. (Did you make a wish?) If you don’t make a wish, it won’t come true.

May today there be peace within.
May you trust your highest power that you are exactly where you are meant to be.
May you not forget the infinite possibilities that are born of faith.
May you use those gifts that you have received, and pass on the love that has been given to you.
May you be content knowing you are a child of God.
Let this presence settle into our bones, and allow your soul the freedom to sing, dance, and to bask in
the sun. It is there for each and every one of you.

Mom Did You See It?

This is forwarded email and I don’t want to delete it without sharing to you!!! very interesting story!!

Mom Did You See It?
===================

Barbara was driving her six-year-old son, Benjamin, to his piano
lesson. They were late, and Barbara was beginning to think she
should have cancelled it. There was always so much to do, and
Barbara, a night-duty nurse at the local hospital, had recently
worked extra shifts. She was tired. The sleet storm and icy
roads added to her tension. Maybe she should turn the car around.

“Mom!” Ben cried, “Look!”

Just ahead a car had lost control on a patch of ice.
As Barbara tapped the brakes, the other car spun wildly,
rolled over, then crashed sideways into a telephone pole.

Barbara pulled over, skidded to a stop and threw open her door.
Thank goodness she was a nurse, she might be able to help these
unfortunate passengers.

Then she paused. What about Ben? She couldn’t take him with
her; little boys shouldn’t see scenes like the one she anticipated.

But was it safe to leave him alone? What if their car was hit
from behind? For a brief moment Barbara considered going on her
way. Someone else was sure to come along. No!
“Ben, honey, promise me you’ll stay in the car!”

“I will, Mommy,” he said as she ran, slipping and sliding,
toward the crash site.

It was worse than she’d feared. Two girls of high school age
were in the car. One, the blonde on the passenger side, was
dead, killed on impact. The driver, however was still breathing.

She was unconscious and pinned in the wreckage.
Barbara quickly applied pressure to the wound in the teenager’s
head while her practiced eye catalogued the other injuries.
A broken leg, maybe two, along with probable internal bleeding.
But if help came soon, the girl would live.

A trucker had pulled up and was calling for help on his cellular
phone. Soon Barbara heard the ambulance sirens. A few moments
later she surrendered her lonely post to rescue workers.

“Good job,” one said as he examined the driver’s wounds,
“You probably saved her life, ma’am.” Perhaps. But as Barbara
walked back to her car a feeling of sadness overwhelmed her,
especially for the family of the girl who had died.

Their lives would never be the same. Oh God, why do such things
have to happen? Slowly Barbara opened her car door.

What should she tell Benjamin?
He was staring at the crash site, his blue eyes huge.

“Mom,” he whispered, “did you see it?”

“See what, Honey?” she asked.

“The angel, Mom! He came down from the sky while you were
running to the car. And he opened the door, and he took that
girl out.”

Barbara’s eyes filled with tears. “Which door, Ben?”

“The passenger side. He took the girl’s hand, and they floated
up to heaven together.”

“What about the driver?”

Ben shrugged. “I didn’t see anyone else.”

Later Barbara was able to meet the families of the victims.
They expressed their gratitude for the help she had provided.
Barbara was able to give them something more — Ben’s vision.

There was no way he could have known by ordinary means who was
in the car or what had happened to either of the passengers.
Nor could the passenger door have been opened. Barbara had seen
it’s tangle of immovable steel herself. Yet Ben’s account
brought consolation to a grieving family. Their daughter was
safe in heaven, and they would see her again.

Bible Reflections from Kyregma

JUST PERFECT

When anyone does obey what he has said, God’s love comes to perfection in him. – 2 John.: 5

I once heard a man give a testimony on the virtues of faithfulness and humility. He went on to share many instances in his life where he exhibited the virtue of faithfulness. Based on the spontaneity and insightfulness of his testimony, it was evident the Lord was working wonders in his marriage, his business, community service and prayer life.
It was an inspiring story, indeed. But what made his testimony more remarkable was that not once did he mention anything about the virtue of humility.
Here was a man who was a living testament of God’s love coming to perfection in him. Here was a man, through the grace of God, who has put away the old self of his former way of life. He has put on a new self, transformed by the Power of God’s Spirit working in him. By not speaking about humility this gentleman spoke volumes of how evident the virtue was in his new life in Jesus.
We have been called to be imitators of God. Jesus even tells us to be perfect just as God is perfect.
Tall order, huh?
Good news is, we can if only we let Him do the work in us. Erwin R.

REFLECTION:
You are the clay. God is the potter. Will you let him mold you into a new creation?

Lord, create in me a clean heart. Put a new and steadfast spirit within me that I may be transformed and ready to do your every purpose. Amen.

ONE TAKEN, ONE LEFT

Predictions of the end of the world are as old as humankind. While approaching year 2000, predictions about the end were common. Even now certain people still live more in the end time than in the reality of today. As the liturgical years moves towards its end, we will have several Gospel readings about the end. They are all disturbing and puzzling. It is not clear whether Jesus is speaking here about the horrible days of Jerusalem’s destruction which happened in the year 70, or of the end of the world. Maybe it’s about both. There are at least two important messages in today’s passage. The first is that the horrible event comes without warning. And that has a reason. When we would know the day of the end of the world or the hour of the end of our life, we might live an indifferent life. We would not care whether we do good or bad, because we plan to “convert” just a day before and go to confession. What a life that would be! Unfortunately many live as they would never die. Jesus could have told us the exact time but he did not. He urges us to be always prepared and ready. The saying about the body and the vultures is a common Jewish proverb which means everything will happen when certain conditions are fulfilled. “In His time!” we say. The second point is that two people who work or live together would not automatically both saved. Here is a hidden warning. Intimacy with a good person is no guarantee for our salvation. Each one will be judged individually. There are young people who excuse themselves from going regularly to church because the Lola goes every day to Mass. There are husbands who leave “being pious” to their wives. We cannot discharge our duty to God by proxy.
This should not scare us. As long as we try to listen well to all of Christ’s teachings, do the will of the Father and be prepared for the great encounter with the Lord, we could look forward to this moment with great expectation and not with fear. That is why we pray after the Lord’s Prayer, “protect us from all anxiety as we wait in joyful hope for the coming of our Savior Jesus Christ.” Fr. Rudy H.

REFLECTION QUESTION:

In what areas of life do I have to change to apply the warnings of Jesus in today’s Gospel?

Lord, like so many I tend to live as if life would go o forever. Like so many I ask others to pray for me so that I feel secure in my weaknesses and sins. You tell me today to be prepared and take responsibility of my own salvation. I needed this lesson very much. With your help I will be able to live more conscious and responsible.

St. Elizabeth of Hungary, widow, pray for us.

2 John 4-9

John encourages his readers to live according to the truth that has been proclaimed to them and according to the commandments of God. This is what it means to be a disciple. In doing this we should always be alert to the movement of the evil one seeking to destroy us and lead us astray. It is sensible to be aware of the enemy of the human race and his minions in order to keep ourselves as far away from him and his works as possible. Let us pray for the grace to live our lives according to these principles.

4 I rejoiced greatly to find some of your children walking in the truth just as we were commanded by the Father. 5 But now, Lady, I ask you, not as though I were writing a new commandment but the one we have had from the beginning: let us love one another. 6 For this is love, that we walk according to his commandments; this is the commandment, as you heard from the beginning, in which you should walk. 7 Many deceivers have gone out into the world, those who do not acknowledge Jesus Christ as coming in the flesh; such is the deceitful one and the antiChrist. 8 Look to yourselves that you do not lose what we worked for but may receive a full recompense. 9 Anyone who is so “progressive” as not to remain in the teaching of the Christ does not have God; whoever remains in the teaching has the Father and the Son.

P S A L M

Psalm 119:1, 2, 10, 11, 17, 18

R: Blessed are they who follow the law of the Lord!

1 Blessed are they whose way is blameless, who walk in the law of the LORD. (R) 2 Blessed are they who observe his decrees, who seek him with all their heart. (R) 10 With all my heart I seek you; let me not stray from your commands. (R) 11 Within my heart I treasure your promise, that I may not sin against you. (R) 17 Be good to your servant, that I may live and keep your words. (R) 18 Open my eyes, that I may consider the wonders of your law. (R)

Luke 17:26-37

The story of Noah, whether truth or fiction, holds many lessons for us. It is true that disasters such as floods can occur at any time. We never know if we might be victims of one of these. Therefore it is important for us to be ready to give an account of our lives at any time. The wise person will be ready to meet the Lord face to face tomorrow, no matter how healthy or invincible they may feel today! Wisdom takes into account more than the mere immediate circumstances and looks to take into account all the various possibilities that might reasonably be expected. Are we wise or foolish in the way that we are preparing to meet tomorrow?

26 As it was in the days of Noah, so it will be in the days of the Son of Man; 27 they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage up to the day that Noah entered the ark, and the flood came and destroyed them all. 28 Similarly, as it was in the days of Lot: they were eating, drinking, buying, selling, planting, building; 29 on the day when Lot left Sodom, fire and brimstone rained from the sky to destroy them all. 30 So it will be on the day the Son of Man is revealed. 31 On that day, a person who is on the housetop and whose belongings are in the house must not go down to get them, and likewise a person in the field must not return to what was left behind. 32 Remember the wife of Lot. 33 Whoever seeks to preserve his life will lose it, but whoever loses it will save it. 34 I tell you, on that night there will be two people in one bed; one will be taken, the other left. 35 And there will be two women grinding meal together; one will be taken, the other left.” 36 37 They said to him in reply, “Where, Lord?” He said to them, “Where the body is, there also the vultures will gather.”

my reflections
think:
The wise person will be ready to meet the Lord face to face tomorrow, no matter how healthy or invincible they may feel today!
