Gratuity or Annuity

Yesterday night as we had a dinner in a restaurant in Prague, Czech Republic, the waitress told us that there is an extra charge for the tip. If I am not mistaken of what I heard, she said 10% of the total bill. This is a form of gratuity but this is not voluntary because they have a certain amount that you need to pay depending on your bill.

Annuity on the other hand is totally different with gratuity. Don’t be confused with it. If I say immediate annuity, I am talking about financial contract that can also refer to life insurance. If you want to have an additional income when you retire, you can purchase a so-called life annuity. This is also a form of investment because somtime in the future you can withdraw a lump-sum from your series payments.

Daily Reading- Matthew 10:24-33

Jesus assures us that we are of great value to the heavenly Father and that He has counted every strand of our hair. Like a doting father, God gazes lovingly at us, so much so that He is entranced by us and wastes His time counting every strand of our hair to make sure not one is missing. If God loves us this much, let us entrust all our cares and concerns to Him rather than carrying them ourselves.

Matthew 10:24-33

24 Jesus said to his Apostles: “No disciple is above his teacher, no slave above his master. 25 It is enough for the disciple that he become like his teacher, for the slave that he become like his master. If they have called the master of the house Beelzebul, how much more those of his household! 26 Therefore do not be afraid of them. Nothing is concealed that will not
be revealed, nor secret that will not be known. 27 What I say to you in the darkness, speak in the light; what you hear whispered, proclaim on the housetops. 28 And do not be afraid of those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul; rather, be afraid of the one who can destroy both soul and body in Gehenna. 29 Are not two sparrows sold for a small coin? Yet not one of them falls to the ground without your Father’s knowledge. 30 Even all the hairs of your head are counted. 31 So do not be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows. 32 Everyone who acknowledges me before others I will acknowledge before my heavenly Father. 33 But whoever denies me before others, I will deny before my heavenly Father.”

Bought A New Travel Gadget

What do you pack with you when you travel? I always pack important travel gadgets with me everytime I travel. One of the most important gadget I put in my bag are cameras. That is plural if you notice it because I always have three cameras with me, my Canon T2I, my compact sony digital camera and my nokia cellphone with camera. I still need one of those underwater cameras the next time I will go for a vacation back home. Since our house is just located some meters away from the sea, this underwater camera is of advantage in taking pictures underwater. Last month, I bought a new compact sony camera again. The old one I have is not anymore functioning good. I guess my cameras are enough now.

Daily Reading- Genesis 49:29-33; 50:15-26

After Jacob’s death, Joseph’s brothers fear he will take revenge on them for the evil they did to him. However, Joseph has long since worked through all his bitterness and hurt and had forgiven them for their treachery. Through all these trials, Joseph has learned a great lesson — that when we place our lives in God’s hands, He turns everything to our good so that nothing can harm us.

Genesis 49:29-33; 50:15-26

29 Jacob gave his sons this charge: “Since I am about to be taken to my people, bury me with my fathers in the cave that lies in the field of Ephron the Hittite, 30 the cave in the field of Machpelah, facing on Mamre, in the land of Canaan, the field that Abraham bought from Ephron the Hittite for a burial ground. 31 There Abraham and his wife Sarah are buried, and so are Isaac and his wife Rebekah, and there, too, I buried Leah — 32 the field and the cave in it that had been purchased from the Hittites.” 50: 15 Now that their father was dead, Joseph’s brothers became fearful and thought, “Suppose Joseph has been nursing a grudge against us and now plans to pay us back in full for all the wrong we did him!” 16 So they approached Joseph and said: “Before your father died, he gave us these instructions: 17 ‘You shall say to Joseph, Jacobbegs you to forgive the criminal wrongdoing of your brothers, who treated you so cruelly.’ Please, therefore, forgive the crime that we, the servants of your father’s God, committed.” When they spoke these words to him, Joseph broke into tears. 18 Then his brothers proceeded to fling themselves down before him and said, “Let us be your slaves!” 19 But Joseph replied to them: “Have no fear. Can I take the place of God? 20 Even though you meant harm to me, God meant it for good, to achieve his present end, the survival of many people. 21 Therefore have no fear. I will provide for you and for your children.” By thus speaking kindly to them, he reassured them. 22 Joseph remained in Egypt, together with his father’s family. He lived a hundred and ten years. 23 He saw Ephraim’s children to the third generation, and the children of Manasseh’s son Machir were also born on Joseph’s knees. 24 Joseph said to his brothers: “I am about to die. God will surely take care of you and lead you out of this land to the land that he promised on oath to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob.” 25 Then, putting the sons of Israel under oath, he continued, “When God thus takes care of you, you must bring my bones up with you from this place.” 26 Joseph died at the age of a hundred and ten.

Talking About Houses

After the buffet we had this noon time in the Chinese restaurant in the next city, hubby and I decided to go for a walk. I need it because I ate more than a thousand of calories during that “eat all you can” lunch. I love especially the Mongolian barbeque. Imagine eating two plates of Asian food.

During our walk, we happened to pass the house in the neighborhood which is still under construction. It is not one of those modern steel buildings but I like how they build it. Last month, it was still a skeleton but now the walls were already done. Hubby said that it looks like a Tuscany house because of its style. He also added that our house near the beach in the Philippines looks better because of its location…lol! I just smile as hubby said that. I know he is happy after our house was built.

The Quote

“I have an old nature that noisily clamors
To satisfy empty desire;
But God in His goodness has sent me a Helper
Who whispers, “Your calling is higher.”

-Gustafson.

Last Visit to the Physical Therapist

Good day everyone! I hope you are all having a lovely day. There are a lot of things to do in the house but I need to post first this quick update. I had my last appointment to the physical therapist yesterday. It was quite good but she said I need more “manual therapy” as the call it here in Germany. I have problems with my shoulder sometimes and can’t sleep during the night due to pain. I hope this will get better soon. Off for some household errands now. I need to remind my sister about her medical scrubs. I hope we can have the chance to chat online later. Enjoy your day folks!

Here is a very nice quote for all of us today! I got this from a friend in FB.

“If not us, then who? If not now, then when?
We’ve often neglected ourselves forgetting
that we too make a difference on the equation of life.
Our actions may create ripples that affects us all.
NOW is the time to make our presence felt and give meaning to our existence.
It’s all about US and what we do today that spells our tomorrow.”

Beautiful Quote!

The value of work is not measured in material or financial gain.
It is on the part of you that goes with what you have done.
Your work defines you.

Indeed hard work brings forth self respect and believing in one’s self.

We don’t have a sunflower field near our area this year. This was taken last year 2010.

Undergoing Home Improvements

There are still a lot of home improvements that we need to do in our house. Our bathroom needs a total repair plus we need to install a new tilt and turn window . We are planning to replace our old kitchen set hopefully next year. In five years maybe, our roof needs a replacement also. We are just doing all these home improvements from time to time when finances are available.

we had a hard time during winter season especially when it is snowing hard. hopefully next winter, snow cleaning is not that hard anymore. we are currently building a garage for our cars. This was taken last December 2010.

We are currently building a garden terrace and a carport or I would say a garage. Actually these two are adjacent to each other. We found this project a priority especially during winter time. Since we don’t have a garage it is very difficult for our two cars to stay outside in open air. Sometimes when you wake-up early in the morning during winter time, everything is already covered with snow. It needs more time and energy to clean it.

all the plants and flowers were gone now. This garden will be the garage. All the plants and flowers were transferred to the former parking lot. It is our new garden now.

The highlight for this year’s home improvement is the terrace. I can’t wait to sit on a coffee table that I am planning to buy. Since the garden terrace is huge enough, probably around 30 square meters, I am also planning to put rustic garden furniture in there.

I was asking hubby if everything will be finished before my birthday comes in August. If not, it is still fine for me. Thanks to hubby for all the patience and diligence in working on it.

Danger of Radiation Around The House

There are a few things around your home that might cause issues with radiation. However, most of the radiation that is emitted is actually quite harmless. There are two types of radiation, particle and electromagnetic. Most of the rays that are emitted with household items such as microwaves, cell phones etc. are actually quite insignificant. Modern appliances are not significant sources of harmful radiation.

The health and lifestyles experts of Love Reading came up with the list of these appliances and electronics.

Computers and Laptops

As with cell phones, computers and laptops also emit small amounts of radiation. Using computers up to 10 hours a day at both work and home means that many people are subjected daily to this radiation. Again, a quartz wi-fi shield can be purchased for these which are simple to use and never need replacing.

Cell phones

It is true that cell phones emit radiation. The radiation that is emitted by your phone is minimal however there are still suspicions and therefore many people purchase a radiation shield for their cell phone. There are some individuals that are concerned about the link between cell phones and brain tumors, however, this is a causal link that has not been proven yet.

Microwaves

Microwaves emit particles of non ionizing radiation. This is what cooks your food. However, even if your microwave is a powerful one, the amount of radiation that is emitted is not going to be harmful, in fact the worst it might do is cause a burn.

AM and FM radios

These devices also use radio waves to communicate with the radio towers. However as with cell phones and cordless phones, the amount of radiation emitted is not harmful to the individual. Individuals don’t need to fear leaving their radio on. Radios will not cause radiation poisoning or any sort of similar problem to the individual.

Radon

Radon in the soil is a strong carcinogen in some areas of the country. This may be something that individuals may want to check for in and around their home. Some levels of radon can be toxic, and can cause some sorts of cancers. There are radon detection kits that can help homeowners with the potential of radon in their area.

There are many other sources of household radiation such as sunlight. This is a far greater potential for harm with this, than any modern household appliances. UVA/UVB rays emitted by the sun have potential for damage to the individual.
