How to Create Space in Your Backyard
Backyards are a wonderful space to have. They’re perfect for entertaining, relaxing and a great space to have if you’ve got children. But sometimes they look and feel a little cramped. This can be easily fixed. There are a number of ways you can add space to your backyard – you just need to get creative.
Pruning
If you have trees, hedges or bushes in your yard, due some pruning before you decide to make any drastic changes. It may be that there is in fact a lot of space in your garden, but you need to cut back the plants in order for it to be recognized. Once you prune, you may well be amazed at the amount of space you suddenly have. Even if it is actually no larger, it will feel larger and much more comfortable.
Get Rid of Weeds and Unwanted Things
Another great way to create more space is to do some simple weeding. Pull out any plants that you don’t want in your yard. If you like, you can replace everything you pull out with a simple lawn or gravel. In addition to this, get rid of anything else – not just plants. Perhaps there’s an old shed that hasn’t been used in years. Knock it down and take advantage of the space.
Washing Line
If you have one of those big old washing lines in the centre of your yarding, consider changing it for a newer one attached to the side of your house. A lot of the time, you can fit just as much washing in half of the space. That, and it’s neatly attached to the wall rather than taking up all of the space in your garden. This is a wonderful way to open up your area and free it of anything you don’t need.
Just Tidy Up
This really makes a difference. Do all of the little things that you never get around to doing. Cut the hedges back, prune the vines and pick up the kid’s toys. Perhaps you could rearrange your outside dining set and place it somewhere more efficient. A regular tidying up will keep your backyard free of clutter, and looking and feeling larger. If this doesn’t quite do the job, move things around a bit. You will be pleasantly surprised at the way rearranging can make such a difference to your space.
You don’t have to do anything drastic to open up your garden. Moving things around and pruning may be all that you need to do to achieve that extra space. Play around with the layout and see what you come up with. You will be amazed at what a difference such small changes can make.
