Design Ideas for Stairways
When it comes to house decor, most people choose to overlook the stairway. It is a functional item in a house and not much thought goes into making it look better than the materials that have gone into creating it. Flooring
If the stairway is bare, a first instinct might be to add carpeting or some kind of fabric floor covering to the stairs. This prevents the slips or falls that can sometimes happen when there is nothing on the stairs to create traction. Most of the time, flooring is installed on stairs in the same way that is is applied to floors. An underlayment is placed down first and the carpet is placed on top of the underlayment. The carpet will have to be secured in place with glue or some other substance.
Art
The walls along a stairway do not have to stay bare. Art pieces can be placed on the walls to accentuate the existing color scheme. It is important not to overdo it with too many small of medium frames. One large piece in the middle of the wall space along the stairs is enough to make a significant impact.
Lighting
If the stairway has a decorative railing, uplighting is a good option. It is a good way to illuminate artisan features and make the railing become a great conversation piece. Everyone is drawn to masterful iron work.
